So, recently I came across an image that was definitely stolen, and was being passed off as an original, whilst being irritated by people praising the artist I discovered some1 had outed the work as theft. It was proven through this new website/program thing.
Tin Eye Reverse image search. (Thank god someone finally made this)
Basically the site runs images through its library of images on the net, obviously it doesn’t have every image. But its getting there. Recently, if I come across a ‘painted’ work which seems ‘too good’ I might quickly tin eye check it. And! a huge amount of images come back with numerous matches to photographs.
I would like to trash talk said artist about it, but unless there’s virtually no difference to the photograph I am hesitant. For one reason only.
There are folks out there who will get an image they like, tediously trace the outlines, and then meticulously start copying the details of the shading. I really don’t know how they enjoy this process, or what value is in it, but that’s their business. Either way these replication painters have blurred the lines of painting/photograph, which is annoying. =d
What do you people think? Give tin eye a shot, you can get a plug in on the site to make checking images super easy. Prepare to encounter highly suspicious works that are *almost* identical to their photo counterparts..
